2011 - 2011 Local Calendar

Thank you to staff, students and parents for a very smooth transition and semester two start up.  Students are now settling into their new classes and routines very well.   Course selection for the 2010-11 school year continues for students to plan their courses for next year.  Counsellors are visiting classes to discuss course selection with students and to distribute course planning sheets. Grade 8 students completed course selection with the Vice Principals between Feb. 8 – 19.  There will be a parent meeting on Feb. 18 at 7 pm for all grade 7 parents who have children coming into grade 8 next year.  The Sullivan Heights Course Selection booklet is available on a link to the left side.  Approximately one half of the students have already completed course selection in semester one and the other half are in full swing right now.  It is important that students make careful choices in course selection as this is what will determine the courses that we will offer next year.
At the start of this semester we are making a concerted effort to encourage students to be on time for classes.  We understand that there is a lot of construction going on in the area but we are asking students to allow extra time in the morning so as to arrive here on time for our 8:25 am start.
We were sorry to say goodbye at semester break to Ms. Clocher – Flink who is off to Ecole Panorama Ridge Secondary.  On Jan. 28 we hosted a celebration along with the Canadian Parents for French Surrey Chapter to mark ten years of French Immersion at Sullivan Heights.  This celebration also marked our final year of French Immersion at this school as the program will have completed its  transition over to Ecole Panorama Ridge Secondary .
Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Jazz Bands students who had a successful experience at the Envision Jazz Festival which was held here at our school from Feb. 4 – 6th.
In Athletics we have had some great successes. Our Junior Boys Basketball team are have had an outstanding season finishing in first place in our division and are looking forward to a strong playoff run..  Many thanks to coaches, Mr. Pederson and Mark Della Cruz.   The Grade 8 Girls Basketball team qualified for the wildcard playoff spot.  The Senior Boys Basketball team is continuing with their season and hoping to qualify for a berth in the playoffs.  We would like to thank coach Mr. Filliatrault for his continued support for our up and coming Rugby program.  Also coming up are badminton, track and field, rugby and golf. Our Stars Hockey team starts their playoffs shortly.   Many thanks to our coaches and sponsor teachers for their time and dedication to our students in athletics.  We appreciate your gift of time.
Our Parent Advisory Council meets on the last Monday of every month. We have a new executive and they are doing a great job of keeping the business of PAC moving forward. We cannot be a great school without a great PAC and they will continue to need your support.   Please plan to join us for our next PAC meeting on Feb. 22 at 7 pm in our school library.
Parents who are able to join us for our Honour Roll assemblies to be held on Feb. 22 & 23 are most welcome to do so.
Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs. S. Morissette
Principal
