Grade 12 Enhancement
Under a partnership agreement with the Surrey School District, Kwantlen Polytechnic University has devoted 24 seats at the Surrey campus to Grade 12 students. Courses which are completed successfully are eligible for dual credit as elective courses in the graduation program. Students are responsible for tuition costs and related course costs.
All course applications must be approved by the Dean of the respective department. A maximum of two students per course is permitted and students are limited to one course per semester. Application deadlines are May 15 for the Fall semester and October 15 for the Spring semester. The School Counsellor has application packages and will assist students with the registration process.
New for Spring 2011 - English 1100
In the Spring of 2011, a section of English 1100 will be offered on the Surrey campus of Kwantlen Polytechnic University. The course is for motivated and well prepared Surrey and Delta high school students who intend to enroll in programs at the university. This course would satisfy their English language requirement prior to beginning their university studies.
English 1100 is a first year writing course designed to give students the critical reading, writing and thinking skills they need to succeed in their university courses, regardless of their chosen field of study. For this reason, it is required of all students registered in degree programs at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, as well as in many certificate and diploma programs. The course introduces students to the principles of rhetoric, composition and analysis while explaining the basic formal and stylistic conventions of academic writing. Through a mixture of lecture, class discussion and group work, students learn to express their ideas and opinions in clear, coherent essays that adhere to the formal guidelines of academic and professional writing.
By enrolling in this course, students become members of the university community, learn important reading, writing and thinking skills, and gain access to a wide variety of resources available to students at KPU. This includes access to the Coast Capital Savings Library and its many online databases. In addition to satisfying a core university requirement, this early exposure to university life facilitates the transition from high school to university.
Grade 12 students who wish to take ENGL 1100 must have Engl 12 with a B. Kwantlen will accept the blended grade (classroom grade + provincial examination grade) OR the classroom grade, whichever is higher.
The application deadline for the course is November 30, 2010. Your School Counsellor has application packages and will assist students with the registration process.
