We start our tour by finding where
we are in Canada. Our school is in Surrey,
British Columbia, Canada. We are in
the south-west corner of B.C. Click
on the map to see a 3-D view of the Fraser
Valley where we live.

Our School's Name

Our school was named after a well-known member of the pioneer Bose family, Henry Bose. This portrait of him hangs in our school foyer. Henry was born in London, England in 1868. In 1890 he came to Surrey to seek his fortune. To find out more about Henry Bose, click on his photograph!

Here we are in the hallway! As you can see, the design of our school is very basic, but it is very  solid. It is still standing after almost forty years. Let's take a peek inside the office and see if we can find our secretaries...

There they are! The world's best secretaries! It is a little-known fact that the secretaries are actually the ones who keep the school functioning smoothly. In this photo you can see that they do have some fun! Let's see if we can find some of our French Immersion students...

Here they are! Can you tell that they are eagerly looking forward to their trip to Quebec? At Henry Bose we are proud of our French Immersion programme and students!

Several times our school has been the largest in B.C. This photo in fact does not show us when we were our biggest, with 1000 students or more. One year we actually had 13 portable classrooms, 2 principals and 2 vice principals! Wow, were we crowded? You bet! Currently we have a student population of around 420. Click the photo to enlarge!

Here is a photo of one of our very popular annual events, our fabulous Multicultural Feast. We are an ethnically diverse school and one can truly see that at the feast! It is a tasty way to celebrate our diversity. Thank you to all of our supportive parents for making the event a success!

This is one of the many eye-catching art projects that help to beautify our school - an undersea garden! It is in the hallway by the office. Our school building is kind of plain and old-fashioned but the staff and especially the students work hard to make it eye-catching and attractive. A trip down the hallways is always enjoyable!

We are on our way to the school library. While we are walking there we can see more of our students' art work...

These students clearly know what our library is for! We are lucky to have a very large collection of books. We also are lucky enough to have the world's best school librarian! Our students love going to the library. Encouraging reading is an important focus at Henry Bose. Now let's peek into some classrooms...

This classroom looks like a fun place to be! Check out all of the student projects on the bulletin boards. And check out how seriously these students are taking their responsibilities as learners. Improving student learning is always  an important focus at our school and the students know it. They work hard and learn a lot!

These students are eagerly learning French. Canada is a dual language country so the students learn English and French. We celebrate cultural diversity at our school. We have children from all parts of the world.

Here we are in the school computer lab! These students are learning how to create multi-media presentations. Our computer lab and all of our classrooms are on line and are connected to the rest of the world. Our students love computers!

What is this? A Physical Education class! The students are keeping fit and are enjoying themselves. Our gymnasium is always a busy place. Right now indoor baseball is being played!  Strike two!
These students are being taught the finer points of basketball by one of our many excellent teachers. We maintain high academic expectations of our students but we do not forget the importance of Physical Education and the Fine Arts! Click here to see a photo of the entire staff in 2006/07.

Our school science fair is very popular and it is a lot of fun.  We also learn a lot!  Here you see one of our young scientists has created a project that is of very high local interest. Burns Bog is one of the most important ecological places of its kind in the world.

Here you can see that our young scientists are very much concerned with environmental issues...

You did not know that we have our very own forest on our school grounds, did you? We also have lots of wonderful equipment for the students to play on. Our school Parent Action Committee has worked hard for years to purchase and install our playgrounds.

This is a photo of one of the other playgrounds at Henry Bose School. It is not hard to tell that the students appreciate the effort that our PAC parent group has made to improve our playgrounds!

This is a picture of Ms. Bell, our new principal! Before coming to our school she was a principal in Vancouver. She brings a lot of energy, intelligence and experience with her! Welcome to our school, Ms. Bell! Click on her photo to enlarge it.

You didn't think we'd forget holidays, did you? Can you tell what time of year it is from these Symmetry art projects?

And here we are in the gym enjoying one of the many special events that the students and teachers put together.  Can you figure out what is going on here?

Each year we participate in the Terry Fox Run for the cure. Staff, students and parents look forward to this important event.

Here you see one of the many colorful murals that grace our school's hallways. This mural was done by our grade sevens. It is not hard to tell what they enjoy most at school!

This is a photo of our soccer fields. In the right-hand  part of the photo you can see the Tina Burbank memorial tree. Tina was one of our students who died tragically.

This might be a good time to tell you about our Henry Bose four "Bees". EVERYONE at our school is encouraged to (you can click on them!):
Be Safe
Be Kind
Be Respectful
Be Responsible

We have many excellent artists at our school. This is the cover of a book that one of our grade six students created. Is this child talented? You bet!
Our School Mission Statement:
At Henry Bose School we strive to create a safe, supportive and healthy environment where all students are expected to do their best - academically, socially and personally.

Before we conclude this tour we thought you might like to see the bronze plaque that hangs in our school foyer. You can see that our school was offically opened in 1965!

Wow, that was a long time ago!

We really hope that you enjoyed your tour of our school!
We are proud of Henry Bose!
