PLANNING 10
Planning 10 is a 4 credit course required for graduation for those students in grade 10.
It includes the following content areas:
- Graduation focus areas and Graduation Transition development
- Planning for education and career transitions
- Informed decision making skills as they relate to health topics and issues
- Financial planning as it relates to student transitions from high school
GRADUATION TRANSITIONS 12
Graduation Transitions (GT) is introduced in Planning 10 and completed in grade 12 as a graduation requirement. Students each receive a Graduation Transitions Plan package in grade 11 to guide them through the process. Graduation Transitions is an opportunity for students to reflect on their knowledge and abilities and plan for life after graduation by collecting evidence of their achievements in the following required areas:
- Personal Health Daily physical activity and a commitment to fitness and physical and emotional well-being are key to healthy living. In this component of Graduation Transitions, students develop the knowledge and habits needed to be healthy individuals by maintaining a personal health plan and participating in at least 150 minutes per week of moderate to vigorous physical activity.
- Community Connections Life after graduation includes the world of work and community responsibilities. As part of Graduation Transitions, students gain employability skills through participation in at least 30 hours of work experience and/or community service.
- Career and Life Graduation Transitions requires students to explore personal and career goals during their secondary school years and create a plan for life after graduation. Transition planning is an ongoing process throughout the graduation program years and requires the completion of a transition plan, culminating in a final Grade 12 presentation.
WORK EXPERIENCE WEX 12A, WEX 12B
Work experience is intended to help prepare students for the transition from secondary school to the world of work. It is an opportunity for students to apply classroom learning in a context outside of school and bring a new perspective to their learning. It also gives students a chance to gain new skills that can be used in future work opportunities. The Work Experience courses are part of every Co-op and are also offered as stand alone courses to grade 12 students wishing to fulfill their graduation requirements with an 80 to 100-hour work experience.
