What is the Surrey School District 50/50
Monthly Lottery?
It's a fun way to bring staff together to generate revenue for an
important cause: the Surrey School District School Meal Program. The lottery currently funds lunch programs for hungry students at four
inner city secondary schools in the district.
How does it work?
There is a lottery draw at the end of each month, for the 10 months of
the school year. To participate, you pay $5 per month for your
"lottery ticket". The $5 is deducted directly from your pay
cheque at the end of each month.
Your "lottery ticket" will be a
three-digit number selected by you. You will select your
three-digit number when you sign up for participation in the lottery -
we are unable to change your number on a regular basis.
50% of
the total monthly pot in the draw (total amount will depend on the
number of participants) will be awarded to the person whose number is
drawn while 50% will be donated to the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) at each of the four
beneficiary inner city secondary schools to pay for lunches for hungry
students.
Participants "buy" more than one number and
therefore increase their chances of winning.
Who can participate?
Surrey School District employees including K-12 contract
teachers, CUPE staff, principals, vice-principals and exempt staff. The $5 ticket is deducted directly from your pay at the end of each
school month.
How will winners be announced?
Winners will be announced the afternoon of the last business day of
the month via email to all sites and to all participants who wish to
receive winner emails. Site administrators will be asked
to post the winning number and name at their site. The winner
will be contacted directly by phone or email.
How do I register?

On your registration form you will be asked to select your top two
choices for a three-digit number to act as your lottery number. Your first choice will be assigned to you as your lottery number
unless that number has already been selected by another participant.
Deadline for application is the 1st of the month in which you would
like to commence participation. However, if you want to
participate starting in September, your registration form is due by
September 1.
What if I register and then later decide to opt-out of the lottery?
Easy! Just fill out the lottery cancellation form ( PDF, 30 KB) and submit it to the address indicated above by the first of the month
that you would like to be removed.
So, if you would like to be
removed from the draw starting in September, you must submit your
cancellation form no later than September 1.
