Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion continues to be a problem before and after school. Although the school’s traffic flow pattern was designed to maximize the flow of traffic, it cannot support the number of vehicles dropping students off in the morning and picking students up after school unless drivers cooperate and use common sense. We presently have 1300 students and next year we are projected to have over 1450 students: the traffic problem is not going to improve. Although the city is planning to make changes on both 64 and 132, these improvements will not affect the traffic problems in our parking lot. Everyone who drives onto the property must help with the problem.
Traffic congestion is a fact of life when we have so many students arriving to school and then leaving for home at the same time.
The best solution is to have your child walk to school if at all possible.
If not, there are a few Do’s and Don’t’s that will help with the traffic congestion.
DO:
- Drop students off a block or two away from the school and have them walk the rest of the way.
- Drop students off and pick students up away from the front entrance.
- Drop students off a little early (8:10 a.m.).
- Follow the traffic flow signs.
- Exit onto 64th Avenue if possible.
DON’T:
- Do not stop and block the flow of traffic when dropping off or picking up students.
- Do not double-park when dropping off or picking up students.
- Do not drop off or pick up students in the area by the portables.
