Audio Visual Technician
NATURE
AND SCOPE OF WORK
An Audio
Visual Technician performs a variety of work related to the
maintenance and repair of PA systems and ancillary equipment and audio
visual equipment.
The work
involves trouble-shooting equipment and system operating malfunctions,
analysing test results and making appropriate repairs to restore
equipment to normal operating condition.
An Audio
Visual Technician performs equipment replacement cost benefit
analyses. An employee in this classification also provides training to
users in the operation of equipment and technical advice and guidance
on equipment capabilities and limitations. Unresolved difficult
technical problems are referred to the Head Repair Technician for
resolution.
Work is
directed by the Head Information Services Repair Technician and
Management.
TYPICAL
RESPONSIBILITIES
Repairs and
reprograms PA systems and ancillary equipment, and ensures outside
contract repairs to PA systems are done to specifications.
Trouble-shoots equipment and system malfunctions, analyses test
results and repairs equipment.
Provides
training and technical advice and guidance to users.
Transports
equipment to shop for repair and servicing.
Performs
repair/replacement cost benefit analyses on faulty equipment and makes
associated recommendations.
Performs
routine maintenance on PA systems and other electronic equipment.
Keeps
current of the latest advances in electronic equipment maintenance and
repair technology.
Performs
related duties, as required.
JOB
REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge
of PA systems and ancillary equipment, audio visual and fine arts
equipment and associated maintenance and repair methods and
procedures.
Knowledge
of trouble-shooting techniques and the use of electronic test
equipment.
Ability to
conduct equipment repair/replacement cost benefit analyses.
Ability to
communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with teaching
staff.
Physical
ability to load and unload electronics equipment.
Ability to
use test equipment and to accurately interpret test results.
Skill in
the use of tools, equipment and materials used in the maintenance and
repair of electronics equipment.
TRAINING
AND EXPERIENCE
Two year
Diploma in Electronics Technology from a recognized institute of
technology or college, one year's previous related experience or a
combination of training and experience where the experience is
extensive and directly related to the work.
