Qualifications FAQ

Do I need prior approval from the board before I take a course that I will use towards my PB +15?

No - prior approval is not required.

Which courses count towards my PB +15?

For courses to count towards your PB+15:

  • The course must be a senior course at the 300 level or above
  • You must achieve a mark of a 'B' or better in each course
  • You must be able to supply transcripts
  • The course must be from a recognized university or college (see below)

What if the course I took was graded only on a 'Pass' or 'Fail' basis?

You need to get a letter from your Institution that states that if the course had been graded differently, your mark would have been a 'B' or better. In other words, the mark you received 'converts' to the equivalent of a 'B' or better.

Which are 'recognized' universities or colleges?

For a detailed list, contact the Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) at 604-736-5484.

After I have finished my coursework, how do I apply for my PB +15?

Please go to the TQS website (www.tqs.bc.ca) for information on how to apply.

If I took extra courses when I was obtaining my Category 5, can those courses be applied towards my PB+15?

Yes, providing courses are considered 'extra'.

If my extra courses were part of a diploma from a university, can those courses be applied towards my PB+15?

Yes, but you need a letter from the university that confirms the extra courses.
