Accidents happen
Did you know that the Surrey School District does not insure expenses for student injuries that happen on school grounds or during school activities? You are responsible for these expenses as a parent or guardian.
Medical Services Plan (MSP) either limits or does not cover some charges and group health plans often have deductibles. Injury-related costs not covered by MSP or group insurance plans may include:
- Dental treatment
- Eyewear
- Rental of crutches or wheelchairs
- Splints and casts
- Physiotherapy
- Private tutors
Whether playing sports, using playground equipment, having fun in the gym or schoolyard, students sometimes injure themselves while at school.
Accident insurance is available
Parents who would like to purchase accident insurance for their child are advised to choose an insurance provider. Several companies offer accident insurance and you must decide which plan suits your family’s individual needs the best.
The Surrey School District and your District Parent Advisory Council provides the opportunity for families to voluntarily purchase private accident insurance through the IAP Kids Plus accident program, underwritten by Industrial Alliance Pacific Life Insurance Company (IAP).
Plan Features:
- Provides coverage 365 days a year in or out of school
- Covers expenses that are limited or not insured under private or group insurance plans or MSP; such as, private tutors, lump sum payment for fractures and dislocations, counseling and much more
- Covers injury-related dental (including future expenses)
- Covers out-of-province emergency medical expenses
- All for one low cost annual premium
Insurance premiums range from $13.50 to $31.95 per year, depending on options selected, and your child is covered all the time; not just while at school.
