3. Principal's Report by Jim Deacon
World Teacher's Day - All teachers were presented with carnations.
190 schools in the province with leaky roofs and we are one of those. Apparently the waiting period is 2-3 years to have repaired. We are waiting for the Provincial Governments' response. We invite you to write letters to the Minister of Education with a copy to the Surrey School District to request the repairs to be completed in an expedient manner.
Explanation of recent school incident involving one student from JH that occurred off the premises (T&T Supermarket parking lot). School website is to be updated.
In-service with department heads being conducted in the next few days.
School enrollment is 53 over projected number.
Visits to all Grade 8 classes now completed. Topics discussed with students were student freedom and responsibility, possible career choices, student referral system, school involvement, expectation of community (honesty issues), being proactive with problem solving, teasing, harassment and bullying, and importance on reporting incidents.
Effective Teacher Video series attended by 22 teachers.
Early dismissal on October 13, 2004.
Interim Reports to be handed out October 15, 2004.
Parent/teacher conferences, October 21, 2004 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, drop-in format.
Grade 8 Parents meeting attended by 119 parents, same format as Grade 8 assembly.
Grade 10 Trades Fair on November 29 in Cloverdale. The school board will supply school buses for all students to attend.4. Financial Reports

Emma met with Executive Mark Adams as was unable to attend DPAC Meeting. Mr. Adams would like to see more parent involvement. The information binder for parents review will be ready soon.6. Dry Grad Committee
Maryann Kika discussed with Tracey Chan, a Grade 12 parent, about becoming involved with Dry Grad and she was unable to attend meeting this evening. Will discuss with her about putting together a notice to be sent out with the students and in the newsletter. Also, will request if she could be present at the Parent Teacher conference day to provide information to parents about Dry Grad.7. Fundraising Committee
Volunteers still needed for coffee sales during Parent Teacher Conferences.
Progressive Fund Raising packages to be put together. Emma spoke with 2 representatives from other schools that have been involved with this fundraiser and noted that it had been successful. Emma to request Doug Beer's (Progressive Fund Raising) attendance at next PAC meeting on November 3, 2004.8. Dance Committee

Staples Recycle for Education program. John Holt to register school. You can drop off your ink and toner cartridges and the proceeds are to be distributed to the schools that are registered.
