Early Learning Programs

Early learning consists of the knowledge, skills and dispositions that preschool children acquire in the years before they enter school.

Early learning takes place in multiple settings: homes, preschools, child care environments, early learning centres, and other community settings.

The Surrey School District provides two early learning programs to the community: StrongStart and Ready, Set, Learn.

StrongStart

StrongStart is a free early learning program for preschool-aged children attending with their families and caregivers.

The program offers play-based early learning and demonstrates for parents and caregivers how they can help their children develop language and other skills, knowledge and attitudes for success in school.

Ready, Set, Learn

Ready, Set, Learn is a school readiness program that helps preschool-aged children prepare for school. Ready, Set Learn open houses are held each year at schools across the district.

Families attending a Ready, Set, Learn open house receive a kit of materials to influence school readiness, including an age appropriate book and parent guidebook.
