Surrey Board of Education hosts annual parent and student consultations

As it does each year, trustees are hosting a series of parent engagement forums over the next several weeks to gather ideas, share perspectives and facilitate discussion on the future of education in Surrey. All trustees attend each session. A special student engagement forum is also set for Feb. 13.

"Our board values this opportunity to hear directly from parents and students, and for these most important stakeholders in the education system, to help shape the future of the Surrey School District," said board chairperson Laurae McNally.

The engagement series, which will be hosted and facilitated by assistant superintendents, is called "Learning in Surrey – Navigating a Preferred Future."

The BC Education Plan, available at www.bcedplan.ca, will form the foundation for discussion and information will also be provided on educational environments that embrace "21st century" themes, including technology in the classroom, increased flexibility and personalized learning.

"These forums build on our past community engagement sessions, and further our relationship with parents and students," added McNally.

A representative group of four to five parents from each elementary and secondary school in the region will participate in the forums. Parents who are interested in taking part should contact their school principal. Parents who attend will be given reading materials ahead of time to allow them to participate as fully as possible.
