Johnston Heights rap group selected to perform at cultural Olympiad

A Surrey school rap group called Access Denied will perform their socially relevant rap on Yaletown's main stage on Friday, February 19.

Student singers Calvin Tiu, Rowell Torres, Elias Sade and Tiffany Santiaguel were brought together by English teacher Shane Begg. The teacher started using rap lyrics as an educational tool in class after he witnessed an incident of bullying.

Access Denied's website at www.accessdenied.me notes that rap "has the power to spark, nurture and create positive change."
