The B.C. Ministry of Education is phasing in universal access to full-day kindergarten (FDK) over two years. Full-day kindergarten will be available for up to half of B.C.’s eligible students in September 2010 and available to all kindergarten students by September 2011. Parents still decide whether to enrol their children in kindergarten, but by the 2011/12 school year FDK will be available to all who want it.
For September 2010, the Surrey School District is happy to announce full-day kindergarten will be available in 82 of the district’s 100 elementary schools and about 73 per cent of all kindergarten classes.
As one of very few districts with growing enrolment, for September 2010, FDK classes were assigned to schools largely based on where classroom space was available, though the district also attempted to provide the program in each of the district’s regions or “family” of schools. However, as the ministry is phasing-in FDK over two years, not everyone can be accommodated for September 2010.
The following table is a list of schools offering full-day kindergarten classes beginning September 2010. Schools marked with an asterisk (*) continue to offer one or more half-day kindergarten classes as well.

Kindergarten registration begins January 18, 2010. All students should register at their neighbourhood school first. If you would like your child to attend kindergarten at a different school, apply at that school as well. Your child may be able to attend another school (outside your own catchment) if space is available, by submitting an out-of-catchment application form ( PDF, 256 KB) (also available at any school) to your chosen school. Names are placed on a waiting list at the school in the order received with priority given first to applications from siblings of current students, then to “in-catchment” students, then to out-of-catchment students from within the region. Wait lists will be created and parents will be informed as soon as possible when space is confirmed.
