2010 Culinary Sculpture photo essay highlights student talent
 


The 26th annual culinary sculpture competition brought 51 Surrey and Delta students and their assorted creations to Enver Creek Secondary. The students and their 34 imaginative sculptures filled the school's gym with creatures, cakes and castles.

Lard or special pastry shortening (SPS) was still the most popular sculpting material used, although the competition was open to students using other food (such as chocolate or fruit) for sculptures. SPS sculptures require students to create a metal or styrofoam frame and then sculpt the SPS around the frame.

Students work for weeks to create their sculptures and exercise great patience as they build detailed work.
