Schools throughout the Surrey school district embraced the “Right to Play Day” supported by the Board of Education. Numerous events took place to fundraise and encourage the message of Surrey’s 2010 Challenge for Children program: hope, respect, social responsibility, goal setting, leadership, teamwork, and the importance of active living , sport, & healthy play.
North Surrey Secondary is one school which has shown tremendous leadership in support of Right to Play. Students at the school are hosting numerous fundraisers right up to the Olympics, including organizing an exciting pep rally and fundraiser in the school gym on Right to Play Day. An enthusiastic crowd watched as four teams played a modified form of soccer with a massive 10 foot high red ball.
Surrey’s 2010 Challenge for Children program kicked off in Surrey’s schools on September 21st 2009 and brought a team of Olympians and youth leaders to more than 130 schools in Surrey through the support of the Right To Play Athlete ambassadors program. The school initiative is exclusive to Surrey and to date has reached more than 70,000 students.
