Surrey district's head of electrical pre-apprenticeship program wins Top In Trades award

Don Zaklan, head of the electrical program for 12 years, has been named as the winner in the education category because he "lives and breathes for teaching class and has a reputation of being the best at training and preparing his students for the workforce."

Students who meet the Surrey district program's career education requirements start their training with Zaklan at Princess Margaret Secondary. After their in-school work, they then complete a 10-week apprenticeship, followed by another semester with Zaklan.

The Top in Trades awards were created by the Industry Training Authority in partnership with The Province newspaper to celebrate excellence in trades and to encourage students to consider trades as a career.
