Counselling Centre at L.A. Matheson Secondary officially opens February 3, 2009

Surrey school district students and their parents will soon have access to counselling on a variety of personal and educational issues, thanks to a unique partnership between Simon Fraser University and Surrey School District.

SFU’s interim Dean of Education Suzanne de Castell, and Surrey Superintendent of Schools Mike McKay will officially open the SFU Surrey Counselling Centre at L.A. Matheson Secondary School on Tuesday, February 3 at 4 p.m. Tours by SFU education students will follow.

SFU will provide counsellors for the centre — qualified staff and graduate students conducting practicums — while the school district is contributing the clinic facilities, says centre director Patrice Keats. Counselling services will be available for a range of personal issues, including parenting, bereavement, depression, anxiety, bullying and sexual orientation.
