Earl Marriott's boys' make great run in provincial championships

After winning the Fraser Valley championships and earning the honour of B.C.'s top public school rugby side, the Earl Marriott Mariner's senior boys' rugby team lost their semi-final game in the provincial championships against the Shawnigan Lake Stags - a team considered to be among the best in the country.

The Mariner's, seeded No. 5 in the province, held their own against the No. 1 seed Stags with a final score of 38-14. The Mariners pulled together and played well on all parts but ran out of gas after an exhausting game the day before, when they staged an upset over the Carson Graham Eagles.

"The loss was against a tough and worthy opponent," says Mariner's coach Adam Roberts. "We look forward to the battle versus Saint Georges on Saturday at noon for 3rd place."

The playoff for third place takes place at the UBC Thunderbird stadium.
