The Surrey Board of Education recognized two special events at its September 24, 2009 Board meeting; declaring World Teachers' Day on October 5, 2009 and Take Our Kids to Work Day on November 4, 2009.
World Teachers' Day is an annual celebration in over 100 countries, including Canada. This special day recognizes the fundamental and powerful relationship that exists between teacher and student and how that connection results in high quality learning and personal growth. The Board acknowledges the significant contribution our teachers make in keeping our learners at the centre.
Take Our Kids to Work Day provides Grade 9 students with the opportunity to have a real life experience in a work environment. The program brings together business people, education and community leaders who are committed to creating challenging learning and career opportunities for young people. Students learn through this experience just how important skills, training and education are to their success. Our Grade 9 students benefit from the support of staff, parents, business and community groups and the Board recognizes that the success of the day is contigent on participation by our community.
