Surrey district teams fare well in popular local basketball tournaments

While the Fleetwood Park Dragons senior boys team made it to last weekend’s championship game of the annual Surrey RCMP Boys Basketball Classic, the team fell to defending champs White Rock Christian Academy Warriors 79-39.

In the junior boys’ final of the long-running tournament, two district teams faced each other. After a late rally, the Enver Creek Cougars pulled out a 42-38 win over the Clayton Heights Night Riders in an exciting game.

More scores and all-star team selections for the 18th annual basketball tournament are available on the Surrey RCMP Boys Basketball Classic website.

Earlier this month, in the Surrey Firefighters Goodwill Sr. Girls Basketball Classic, the defending champions Elgin Park Orcas team was victorious for the fourth consecutive year in the top Axe Division. In the final, the Orcas held off the Blackburn Vikings, a team from Australia, pulling away in the final two quarters to post a 75-53 win.

In the Ladder Division, the Tamanawis Wildcats defeated the Sullivan Heights Stars 39-29 in an all-district championship game.

Scores and an awards listing for the girls’ tournament are available at the Surrey Firefighters Goodwill Sr. Girls Basketball Classic website.
