Each school day, the Surrey School Meal Program strives to provide a nutritious lunch for as
many students as possible, who might otherwise go hungry. Research has clearly shown children
who have enough food to eat learn better.
Elementary students in full day Kindergarten and Grades 1-7 receive a nutritious cold
lunch consisting of milk or 100% fruit juice, a sandwich or similar entrée, and fruit or simple
dessert. Half day Kindergarten children receive a recess snack of fruit or simple dessert.
Special arrangements are made to meet the needs of students with proven food allergies,
religious restrictions and special dietary needs. However, the program cannot feed children with
extensive allergies, very complex special diets or restrictions. Food consumption is closely
monitored to be sure that the children like their lunches and eat the food they receive.
Parents help by paying $1 or as much as they can afford to offset the cost of the meals each
month. The Ministry of Education pays for the balance of the program.
Approximately 2,000 students are fed each day at the following elementary schools:

There are more children who would benefit from the School Meal Program, so
donations are appreciated.
With financial support from several service clubs and private donors in Surrey, and the
Employee 50/50 Lottery, approximately 25 students are able to participate in lunch programs
offered at Kwantlen Park, Guildford Park, Queen Elizabeth and Princess
Margaret. Unfortunately, these programs are not able to reach all the students in need. Donations are always appreciated.
