Welcome back students, staff and parents! I hope that you all had a wonderful and relaxing summer break and you are looking forward to the opening of the 2010 – 2011 school year. The enrolment of Fleetwood Park Secondary School is expected to be a bit under 1400 this year. A special welcome goes out to our new grade 8 class. We have been planning for your arrival since the spring of last year. We have special events planned for you including a pancake breakfast and the grade 8 retreat. (Watch for more information about these events!) If you have questions about the start-up of the 2010 – 2011 school year please do not hesitate to phone the school so we can answer your questions. All students are asked to check their start times for Tuesday, September 7th, 2010. Each student will attend his or her homeroom class for approximately 45 minutes. Check the homeroom times on the first page of this newsletter. It is very important that all students attend their homeroom class each day for the first week of school.
Please note: Homeroom classes are different this year. Students’ homeroom classes will be their Block A (now called Period 1) class for each semester. Counsellors will be available at the school during the last week of August to help students who have errors in their timetable or have incomplete timetables. Please check this newsletter for the times that have been set aside for each grade. Please…be patient…counsellors will also be scheduling all new registrants. Our newsletters are now available on-line. This newsletter is the only one of the year that will be mailed or sent home. We will notify parents via e-mail each time the newsletter
comes on-line, so please ensure we have your e-mail address in the office. The first PAC meeting of the year is on Monday, September 20 at 7:00 pm in the school library. I encourage parents to attend this meeting and become involved in working together with the school staff to make Fleetwood Park an amazing school for our students. Grade 8 parents… we especially invite you to attend! The administration at Fleetwood Park Sec is looking forward to an exciting and rewarding 2010 – 2011 school year and to working collaboratively with parents and community partners.
