Technical Drawing 9/10

Technical Drawing ProjectTechnical drawing 9/10 is an introductory course that provides skill development in computer and drawing techniques. Students will learn to draw in architectural and mechanical-related areas. This course can be of real value to anyone wishing to pursue a career designing, building, or manufacturing items.

COURSE CONTENT:
A course fee of $15 covers drawing materials used during the course. As an entry-level course the student will learn the following basic concepts:

Traditional Drafting Techniques
-Drawing instruments, their use and conventions.
-Drawing layouts; 3-view orthographic, dimensional and pictorial drawings in isometric, oblique and perspective sketches.

-Rules for computer use; logging on / off, saving
-File and folder management
-Drawing set-up, tools and commands
-Layers, lines, scales, dimensioning, text

ASSIGNMENTS:
Students will begin with teacher directed assignments related to drawing set-up and
conventions. Two projects will complete course assignments.

A) We will explore the design and planning process for residential home construction. Students will be given the opportunity to design a small cabin or cottage as a group and create the related drawings necessary to describe their idea on paper. The level of design and number of drawings in the set will be determined by the ability of the individual student. The set of plans will include a combination of board and CAD drawings.

B) Students will investigate and practice mechanical and engineering drawing to learn the following concepts:
-Geometrical drawing, auxiliary and revolutions, sectioning, fasteners (thread representation). The project for this section will involve research into a subject of the student's choice. Students will produce working drawings of their selected subject or object and produce- orthographic, dimensioning, assembly and isometric exploded views.

EVALUATION:
Active participation (in class, homework) 20%
Application of acquired skills- assignments 30%
Final level drawings (2 x 25%) 50%

ATTENDANCE:
This course follows the Industrial Technology Department's attendance policy and guidelines. Students will be directed to read and sign a copy of the attendance expectations. Marks for unexcused- lates (1/2%) and absences (1%) will be deducted from the student's final mark.
