This is an introductory course for students interested in the methods and techniques of working with glass. Students will learn image development, design and the use of color as they make various projects. The couse introduces terms and tools for glass work as students create artworks using mosaic, etching, and foiling techniques. Some of the projects include stained glass sun-catchers, sand-blasted designs and more.
Course Outline
A beginner course in working with glass. Students will complete several teacher directed projects and at least one major piece of the student's choice and design.
Course Fees: $15.00 for course supplies and materials used in skill building exercises
Students will be responsible for the material costs of their final project.
Requirements for course completion will include: regular, punctual attendance & participation, orientation and safety quizzes for tools, equipment and studio privileges, tests, quizzes and/or assignments pertaining to the history, development, theories and techniques associated with our study of glass.
Student participation in the class is expected- lates and unexcused absences result in missed classroom experiences and will lead to a low or incomplete final mark.

COURSE FEES
Student fees cover materials used for their skill development projects including:
Mosaics – plywood, tile, mastic and grout
Etching – glass, resist, knives, frame and mounting material
Spider Web – wire, jewels, foil, solder & flux
Stained Glass – foil, glass, edging, solder & flux
Coaster – mactac, glass, cement
NOTE: Students are responsible for providing materials glass, foil, lead, etc.) for their final projects. Students have varying tastes, ambitions and budgets for their final expressions in glass and thus must bear the cost associated with the final project. A list of glass art suppliers will be provided and each student is expected to phone and visit a store with their plans and drawings to acquire materials.
HINT Resourceful students will collect materials from friends and neighbors or keep an eye on the roadside during clean-up week for glass, mirror, lamps, etc. that may be recycled into a project.
