Computer Animation Art By William MacCumber This course will utilize computer-generated models, animation, and rendering to provide learning opportunities for students to perceive and create still or moving images in 2D or 3D. Technical knowledge, skills and tools will be employed to allow students to devlop the attributes and skills necessary to explore career paths in technical visualization, animation, or industrial design.

Technical Visualization (Computer Animation)

Introduction


Level 1 Animation is an introductory course. Students will be guided through the basic knowledge and skills associated with classical and computer generated animation. This course will start with a strong emphasis on a structured learning environment. The assignments will be designed to promote the students’ creativity and to promote teamwork and self-motivation. A course fee of $15 covers materials used in the course and software upgrades.

Assignments and Activities


Computer Animation Art By Janelle Caouette Assignments will start with the basic of computers and the network used in the lab. Introductory lessons, tutorials and skill building assignments will be used to learn the basics of animation. You will be expected to keep a portfolio/log book showing the progression of your ideas. This logbook will be 80% sketches with some text for explanations. Most assignments will start with planning using sketches, progress to a computer creation of your ideas and finally teacher, student and self-evaluation of youhr end product. You will start by building scenes and finish by creating animations. The workload will be divided with ¼ of the course devoted to tutorials and lessons, ¼ devoted to sketching and planning and the rest to projects. Self-exploration of the animation software’s abilities is essential for those expecting a mark above 73%.

To complete some of the assignments students will need to do some research and/or preplanning at home.

Evaluation


The evaluation of students will consist of a variety of methods. These methods will include assignments, sketch book, attendance, work habits, teacher evaluation, critiquing and student self-evaluation. The evaluation will be broken down as follows.


Teacher Marked Assignments 40%
Student marked assignments, self-evaluated 20%
Class participation, attendance and work habits 20%
Sketch/Log Book 20%

Assignments will be given due dates and a value of marks. After the due date has passed the assignment will not be accepted for marks without good cause. All assignments must include your full name.

NO FOOD OR DRINKS are allowed in the computer room.

LATES without a legitimate excuse will result in a 1/2 percent deduction from the student's participation mark. No make-up exams or lessons will be given for reasons of tardiness.

I will make the computer room available as often as possible. If there are available computers or desks feel free to use them. However, you must respect the environment and act as if you are one of the class.

The lab will be open as long as I am in the school and aware of students being in the room. It will be the responsibility of the students using the room to ensure that only animation students use the equipment and that the doors will be closed and locked on their way out.

Nobody will be allowed to leave the room for the first ten minutes of class or the last ten minutes. Use the breaks to go to the washroom.
