School District 36 (Surrey) Online Resources

The Surrey School District has purchased subscriptions to online databases that provide educational and reference information for students.

If you access from your school computers, no login or password is required.

If you access from home, please contact your school to obtain a login and password.

ENCYCLOPEDIAS

For elementary users: encyclopaedia with simple navigation, easy-to-read content and graphic features.
WB Discover
For late elementary, secondary, and adult users: readable and authoritative information on significant BC people, places and things.
For secondary students: includes the World Book Encyclopaedia, dictionary, atlas, a multimedia collection, and editor-selected Web sites.
French encyclopedia, appropriate for younger users who are native speakers and readers of French, as well as older students and adults for whom French is a second language.
For secondary and postsecondary students: integrates e-books, images and sounds, research tools, encyclopaedia entries and primary source documents.
TumbleBookLibrary National Film Board (NFB)
Tumblebooks NFB: Our collection includes documentaries, animations, experimental films and fiction. We showcase films that take a stand on issues of global importance that matter to Canadians – stories about the environment, human rights, international conflict, the arts and more.
EBSCO Resources
For secondary users: materials, including essays, political magazines, newspapers, radio/TV news transcripts, primary source documents, and reference books, providing a variety of viewpoints.
For late elementary and secondary users: users navigate to specific Canadian pages from publications and reference sources.
For secondary and adult users:  combines Canadian magazines, newspapers, newswire transcripts and reference materials.
For secondary and adult users:  a readers' advisory service, including author read-alikes, book discussion guides, and reading lists.
For elementary students: a fiction database and reader's advisory service, including book reviews and reading lists.
For secondary and adult users: content covers areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to complementary, holistic and integrated medicine.
For elementary students: dinosaur-themed search tool accesses newspapers, periodicals and other reference sources.
For elementary students: child-friendly design, rich in graphics, allows easier topic searching in the Academic Search Database.
For secondary and adult users: searches all of EBSCO's full text databases for articles from a large collection of publications.
ELL Reference Center  is designed for those that are new to the English language. It is designed to support students’ English-language proficiency and comprehension-including literacy, researching, note-taking and academic writing.
