AIM Games

AIM Games and Game On are the two main sport initiatives within APA. The AIM Games is a one day sporting event in late spring for students with disabilities.

The main purpose is to showcase sports and physical activity that local sport organizations provide in the hopes that families become more aware of choices available in our community.

For the time being, AIM Games is designed for students in secondary schools. Any elementary students (grades 5 to 7) that participated in the Game On season that preceded the AIM Games are also invited to register.

AIM Games 2011: May 12 at Guildford Park Secondary (see Registration page for details)

History

The AIM Games first started in 2005 at Princess Margaret to see if students were interested and would participate in these sports and recreation activities. In 2006, Johnston Heights hosted the 2nd AIM Games and we had students from 15 high schools participating.

In 2007 we have grown into a program providing sports and recreation in the district: the Adapted Physical Activity program. In 2007, we expanded offering an after school sports’ program in the spring, named Game On. In 2008, the fourth Annual AIM Games at Johnston Heights on May 8 was an incredibly positive event. All 18 Surrey high schools participated with near 200 student athletes, over 100 student volunteers, and the entire Johnston Heights school family welcoming our athletes for the day. In 2009, Tamanawis Secondary hosted the fifth annual AIM Games on May 14.

The goal is to have AIM Games move around the district. We hope every Surrey secondary school take on hosting the AIM Games. It is truly a wonderfully positive event that can have immediate impact on a school’s culture: to celebrate youth with disabilities through sport.

In 2010 and 2011, Guildford Park hosted the sixth and seventh annual events.
