LIBRARY
FACILITIES AND USAGE
In
a secondary school, students must have an opportunity to
work in a quiet academic atmosphere, therefore, the library
is open for students who wish to read, study, select resources
or do homework. Students wishing to discuss, verbally quiz,
or converse should do so in the cafeteria or halls. Please
be considerate and remember the library is not a student
lounge or social centre. Students coming to the Library,
Media and Technology Centre during class time must have
a signed permission slip from their teacher. Any students
disrupting the academic tone of the Library, Media and
Technology Centre will be asked to leave. Please respect
the rights of others to study research, or do homework
quietly.
|
Please
remember, the place to eat, drink and throw parties
is not in the library!!! Please respect our rules,
of NO GUM, NO FOOD, NO DRINK and NO IPOD's or otherMP3 players!
Please
enter and exit the library by the main front
door only. Do not exit via the side doors except
in the case of a real emergency, the side doors
are alarmed!!! |

consideration forms are located at the circulation desk.
The
teacher-librarian would be pleased to give you assistance
with locating information, outlining, notetaking, works
cited preparation (bibliography) and text referencing
(footnotes/endnotes). Print guidelines for works

at the circulation desk or simply follow the link on
our website and print a copy at home!

OVERDUE
RESOURCES
Our
policy is simple: If you owe library material,
you may not sign anything out until your overdue
material has been returned or renewed. If you
do not return library resources you will be billed.
Our
computer system automatically tells us if you
have any overdue library material. In
fact, the computer will not allow books to
circulate to you if you have overdues!!!
Overdue
notices will be circulated frequently to your
homeroom class. Please return library material
promptly on or before the due date. If there
are any problems with material signed out in
your name, please see the teacher-librarian immediately.
|
RENEWING
RESOURCES
You
may renew items at any time. To renew library resources,
please bring them to the circulation desk.

RETURNING
LIBRARY RESOURCES
All
books, periodicals, vertical file envelopes and audio-visual
material such as videos and DVD's should be returned
in either the slot at the circulation desk or outside
book return. DO NOT leave material on top of the circulation
desk or at a table.
BORROWING
PROCEDURES
The
Library, Media and Technology Centre is fully automated and
secured. In order not to set off the security system, the
items you wish to borrow must be processed by a library aide
at the circulation desk.
In
order to sign out library material, you must present
your GO CARD to the library aide. NO library materials
will be signed out without your library card. However,
if you have other identification such as your timetable,
medical card, driver's license or credit card, you
can sign out resources!
If
your picture was taken in September, you are probably
in our photo composite book and can sign out resources
without your card.
We
strongly discourage you from signing out books for
your friends. If you sign out or lend books to a
friend, you are responsible for their return - not
your friend. No one can have access to your library
card unless you loan it to them! Books that you or
your friend lose, you will pay for!
Please,
insert a date due reminder into the pocket of the
books, to remind you when resources must be returned.
Don't
forget, we will not sign out books without identification. |
|
LOAN
PERIODS
The
loan period for books, periodicals, career file, university/college
calendars and vertical file clippings is two weeks. Reference
books and encyclopedias are on overnight loan. A/V materials
such as videos and DVD's are on one week loan. At certain
times, books may be put on reserve for classes doing
research.
YOUR
LIBRARY/GO CARD

|
Your
GO CARD is your library card. It will have your
library barcode/student number on it. As your
number does not change from year to year, it
is a good idea to keep your card from the previous
year. Students who are new to the school, may
use their timetable until they get their GO CARD.
In fact, it is a good idea, to tape your timetable
into your agenda as a backup.
Consider
your GO CARD like a first credit card! You
are responsible for any material signed out
on your card.
If
you lose your GO CARD, please inform the teacher-librarian
immediately. |
| There
is a coin operated photocopy machine in the library.
Photocopies are 15¢ per page. If you require
assistance, just ask! |
